The golden oak is scientifically known as Quercus antifolic, an evergreen oak species endemic to Cyprus. It is a small tree or large shrub, typically growing up to 10–11 meters (33–36 feet) high, sometimes called a dwarf oak due to its relatively short stature. Its leaves are dark green and shiny on top, with a golden or brownish underside, giving the tree its common name. The tree produces yellowish male catkins and inconspicuous female flowers, and its acorns are narrow, 2–3 cm long. The golden oak thrives on rocky soils and is part of the Troodos Mountains’ unique flora. In 2006, it was designated as Cyprus’s national tree due to its cultural and ecological significance
